Nationals Clinch the NL East

This past Tuesday (9/16/14), the Washington Nationals overcame a big hurtle that restricted their success in the previous season: defeating their divisional rival the Atlanta Braves. The Braves had always been the main team standing in the way of the National's division title for the previous 2 seasons, as they would defeat the Nationals in the past 25 out of 35 games since September 2012. Last night's victory was all the more special for Nats fans because it resembled the exact opposite of the past few seasons, having the Nationals dominate the Braves in the last 4 out of 5 games in 9 days.

This memorable win that clinched a playoff spot was believed by some, to be a year late, after such a successful season in 2012 that was ended in the playoffs by giving up a lead in game 5 against St Louis. But this  second NL East Title in three years wouldn't be possible without some extraordinary effort by not just Harper and Strasburg whom are expected to perform at a high level, but considerable recognition is owed to a few, more subtle ball players:

According to usa.com, the Washington Nationals are the only team in the majors with four 80-RBI players: Ian Desmond, Adam LaRoche, Anthony Rendon, and Jayson Werth. These four incredible athletes have quickly become some of the most consistent hitters in the major league. (Also recognizing Denard Span's 29-game hit streak this season,  the most in the majors this season.)

Good luck to the Nationals as they wrap up this season with their last two series in September against the Mets and the Marlins and as they prepare for the playoffs GO NATS!!!
